Priced around $799 it's one of Nordic track's budget-built elliptical trainers.
Since it has been discontinued if you are thinking about buying this elliptical second-hand, be aware the NordicTrack will not honor the warranty on a 2nd owner. Also, it could be very hard to find parts should something go wrong with the elliptical
Here's a review of the Nordic Track CX 998 Elliptical:
Main Features:
Power Incline - (Also called 'Ramp') Changing the incline of an elliptical changes the shape of the elliptical stride, which alters the muscle groups your workout focuses on. With a range of 5% to 30% incline settings, you can work every muscle in your legs and glutes.
SMR™ Silent Magnetic Resistance - Magnetic resistance uses magnetic pull to create the resistance in your workout. This makes for a very quiet workout. Choose from 10 intensity levels to target specific workout and conditioning goals.
Oversized Pedals with 18" Stride Length - helps you find a comfortable foot hold or change the length of your stride for an optimal workout.
iFit Compatible - The NordicTrack 998 can run optional iFIT.com® workouts in addition to the workouts built-in to your console. This can help fight off exercise boredom and burn more calories over the long run.
EKG Heart Rate Monitor - Stay in your target training zone by gripping the handlebars and getting an accurate pulse reading from the built-in sensors.
Carb Counter - track the total number of carb grams you burn during your workout with the fitness machine Carb Counter™.
Pros:
The two biggest pros of the Nordic Track CX998 are price and incline. The price makes this elliptical extremely affordable for most home gym shoppers. Incline is an option that used to only be found on the commercial grade ellipticals over $2500 so it's nice to find here. However also note that incline is now being found on many more affordable models like Sole ellipticals.
Other pros include fairly smooth and silent operation as well as a one year warranty which isn't great but decent for this price point.
Cons:
Obviously for this price, you are not going to get the feel and durability of a commercial machine. While the warranty is ok, the fact that you have to purchase longer warranty coverage over one year if you want your elliptical protected is also a turn-off.
Summary: Not Recommended
The Nordic Track CX 998 elliptical is an economy elliptical with some decent value built in to it. However it is an older model and the newer ellipticals coming out now give you so much more for similar prices. So it's hard to recommend it.
If you're want a stronger machine, try looking at the higher end Nordic Track units like the Nordic Track Audiostrider 990 or the ACT Trainer which offer higher stability and many more features like longer stride lengths and incline.
