A Review of Commercial Grade Elliptical Machines and Where to Save
Looking for a Commercial Elliptical machine? Commercial style elliptical machines come in all shapes and sizes (and prices for that matter).

This article will tell you what you need to know when buying a commercial style elliptical trainer - and give you a few brief reviews of top commercial crosstrainers along with where you can save money when you buy.

First of all, what is a commercial crosstrainer? Well, for the most part a commercial machine is made with tougher construction - sometimes even industrial grade construction. Commercial machines can be made for the health club or even for the upscale home gym.

Commercial crosstrainers tend to have greater ergonomic design (so you get a more optimal workout), more workout options (incline, different elliptical motions), smoother feeling rides and health-club style dot matrix consoles.

They will also last you a lot longer - and take more of a beating - than a standard home elliptical.

There are also what you could call 'commercial grade' elliptical trainers. These aren't made specifically for the health club but are higher end versions of home elliptical trainers.

For example, Nordic Track puts out a Commercial ACT Elliptical trainer that runs around $899. Is it really a 'health club' machine? Not really. But it is built to a higher standard than some of the lower end Nordic Track models.

Then there are the Sole elliptical trainers. These are also 'commercial grade' but at a much higher level than the Nordic Track unit above.

Sole started out making treadmills for the hotel commercial market so they tend to build their ellipticals with a tougher grade of components and cover them with extra long warranties.

The most commercial of their ellipticals would be the Sole E95 elliptical trainer which also has a health-club style console and power 40 Degree incline.

A newer commercial style elliptical is the Smooth Agile DMT. This is similar to the Cybex Arc Trainer (another health club machine) but costs several thousand dollars less.

This elliptical offers not just 1 standard elliptical motion but 12 different elliptical motions to help you burn more calories and continually challenge your body.

Another brand that is not as well known but makes some excellent center drive commercial ellipticals is Lifecore Fitness. Of special note is their CD 500, CD 600 and CD 700 which give you long stride lengths, commercial style consoles and extra comfortable design.

If you're going for a true commercial style elliptical, you can expect to pay upwards of about $4000 - $6000. However you can sometimes find a remanufactured commercial machine for a bit less.

Besides the ellitpicals mentioned above, other commercial brands of ellipticals include LifeFitness, Precor and Cybex. You can find these online at Amazon Fitness.
