A Detailed Review of the Pro form 850 Elliptical & Where To Find It At A Discount
Strengths:
2 Interactive Video Games Built Into the console - This is a very cool, fun feature - great if you want a distraction while working out. You get 2 games: Calorie Destroyer or Fat Blocker. The harder you work, the easier the game becomes (and the more calories you burn). This is a great feature if you like to be distracted while working out.
18" Stride For A Better Lower Body Workout - This is a longer stride than many past Proform models and helps to give your leg muscles a better, fuller workout. While die-hards and taller users may still prefer a 20" stride, the 18" stride is still pretty good - especially at this price point.
iPod/MP3 Dock with Built-In Console Speakers - You can plug in, charge and play your iPod or MP3 player while listening to your music or audiobook through 2 speakers built into the console. This is another great feature to keep your workouts fun and energizing.
Improved Warranty - The warranty covers the frame for a lifetime, brake for 10 years, and 1 year on parts and labor. While this isn't the best warranty out there, it's still a huge improvement over the old 90 day warranties on past Proform models. It's also indicative of a higher grade of construction.
Heart Rate Monitor - Stay in your target heart rate range with the EKG heart rate monitor. Although this is a fairly standard feature to have, it's still a nice addition that can help optimize your workout.
Weaknesses:
The Proform 850 is an economy elliptical so don't expect a commercial grade feel or heavy duty construction. And while the 18" may be fine for most people, taller users may want to step up to a 20" stride found on the Sole Ellipticals.
Summary:
The Proform 850 elliptical is a fun little budget buy with some cool tools like video games, iPod port and speakers. The 18" stride is an improvement over older models and the warranty is also quite decent.
Keep in mind however that this is an economy elliptical and is not recommended for heavy or frequent use.
Proform keeps changing the price around on this elliptical so it can get confusing. Under $1000 it's a great deal. However at the current price point, it makes more sense to go with a Sole instead which offers a longer stride, better warranty and overall stronger construction.
