Nordic Track Elliptical Trainer:
A Review of Nordictrack Ellipticals & Where To Find Them At A Discount
Incline is a feature that used to be found only on $3000 commercial models so it's a huge bonus to find on these ellipticals.
(Note that incline is not found on all models).
Plus NordicTrack has recently introduced their Elite series of ellipticals, which also have decline options (which we've never seen before on any elliptical) - so you get even better crosstraining results.
2) Longer Stride Lengths For A More Effective Workout
Stride length is the furthest distance between the pedals.
While many of the older Nordictrack models offered 15-16" stride lengths, the new models are coming with 18" - 20" stride lengths or more. This is a huge improvement as it helps work your leg muscles more fully - burning maximum calories.
The Nordic Track A.C.T. and the Elite 12.0 ellipticals, for example carry an extra long 22" stride. A longer stride also makes for a more comfortable feeling ride - especially if you're taller or like to pick up the pace during your workout.
3) iFit For More Interactive Workouts
iFit LIVE helps you add even more workouts to your elliptical. If you have wireless internet in your home, you can download new workouts to your elliptical from the Internet.
You get the voice of a personal trainer talking you through your workout. Nordic Track has even teamed up with Jillian Michaels (the personal trainer on The Biggest Loser) to make workouts where she coaches you through the workout. It's like having a personal trainer in your machine.
With iFit you can also map out trails all over the world using Googlemaps and even track your nutrition and activity online to reach weight loss and fitness goals.
4) Built In Speakers with iPod / MP3 Hookup
Several of the new models come with built in speakers and iPod / mp3 plug in ports. You just plug in your iPod and listen to your favorite music or audiobook through the built-in speakers. This can make your workouts a lot more fun and enjoyable.
5) Folding To Save Space
Several Nordic Track elliptical models (like the E 7.1 or the 5.5) fold up for easy storage and movement. This is a handy feature and great for smaller workout areas like condos or apartments.
6) Adjustable Stride Lengths
Several models like the A.C.T. elliptical come with adjustable stride lengths. Having different stride lengths can help you target different muscle groups and trouble spots. It can also be ideal if you have multiple users since everyone can find a stride that feels comfortable for them.
7) Built-In Web Browser
NordicTrack recently introduced the new Elite 15.0 elliptical that comes with a large built-in console web browser. So you can surf the net, read business news or catch up on emails while you workout. Very cool.
Weaknesses:
On most of the starter ellipticals (not the Elite series), the warranty covers 1 year on parts and labor with extended warranties available. We would have liked to see a longer parts warranty on the models, however at these price points, one year is pretty much the norm.
Also, if you're planning on every-day use of the elliptical (or multiple users), you'll probably want to look at the higher end models ($800+) for a stronger, more durable machine.
Summary: Recommended
Nordic Track ellipticals offer you the best of both worlds - decent construction along with some incredibly fun tools that you won't find on other brands. You're almost guaranteed to find something you'll love.
You can find ellipticals with incline and decline, interactive workout programs, Wi-Fi connections to download new workouts (iFit), iPod docks, built-in speakers, fitness tracking journals, adjustable strides, web browsers and even extra long 22" strides
Plus, several models have been marked down recently for the new year, which means you'll get good value for the money.

Strengths:
1) Incline and Decline For Better Crosstraining
Incline (also called Ramp) changes the slope of the elliptical motion, helping you crosstrain and work different sets of muscles.
This gives you a more effective crosstraining workout and avoids overtraining.
