What To Know Before You Buy
Strengths:

Advanced Blue Backlit LCD Console - The console includes a place for your mp3 player, a towel hook and built-in fan. The blue backlit LCD display is easy to read and much more advanced than the 430 and 420 models (which are not backlit).

BioFit Articulating Footplate - The articulating footplate follows the natural motion of your foot and supports your heel throughout the entire stride motion.  This makes for a much smoother feel when you're working out.

Heavy Flywheel Gives A Smoother Ride - With a heavy 25 pound steel flywheel and computer controlled drive system you get a very smooth ride. It feels solid and doesn't shake or wobble when you pick up your pace.

Quiet Operation - One thing we really liked when trying out the 431 was that it was very quiet. You could easily set this up in front of your TV and watch without having to crank the volume up to drown out the sound of the elliptical.

High User Ratings - Consumer reviews have been very positive for the 431.  As of this writing, it rates 4.5 out of 5 stars with users at Amazon

Popular features with reviewers were the sturdiness of the unit, quietness of operation and ease of assembly.

Weaknesses:

This is still an economy elliptical and it's not recommended for heavy or prolonged use. And while most people are fine with the 18" stride, taller users may prefer the 20" stride found on the Sole brand.

Also, the 90 days warranty on labor is not great. But it's pretty standard considering the price.

Conclusion:  Recommended

The Schwinn 431 elliptical is one of the best Schwinn elliptical values currently on the market. You get a stable machine, backlit console, heavier flywheel and smoother, more comfortable ride.

And the little things like the articulating footplate, 3 speed built-in-fan and towel hook all help to add a little more comfort to your workout.

While it's still an economy elliptical, it's well made and packs a lot of value into a very low price.
