A Review of Vision Ellipticals & Where To Find Them At A Discount
2) Long Stride Lengths For More Effective Workouts - These ellipticals use fairly long stride lengths ranging from about 18 - 19.5 inches.
A longer stride length more accurately mimics your body's natural motion and it feels more comfortable when exercising.
It recruits more leg muscles into your workout which means a more effective workout with more calories burned.
3) Incline - Several Vision models do comes with power incline. Incline is not the same as resistance. It changes the slope of the elliptical workout and incorporates different muscle groups into the workout. This gives you better crosstraining.
It should be noted however that many ellipticals are now putting incline in their models and with Vision traditional ellipticals you get up to 21 degree incline - with Sole you get up to 40 degree inclines.
4) Folding - Vision made several of their models like the 6100 and 6200 to be compact and to fold up. This is great if you want to save space. However again, it should be noted that other brands like Nordic Track and Proform also offer this feature.
5) Suspension Ellipticals - These are new type of elliptical, similar to the Smooth Agile trainers. They have variable stride and foot pedals closer together. However, they are hard to find with little user feedback.
Vision Fitness elliptical trainers are produced by Johnson - a well known name in the business that also owns names like Matrix and Horizon.
They are the 4th largest maker of fitness equipment in North America and have been making equipment for over 20 years.
Vision home ellipticals used to be more popular and received several high ratings in 2005 from the LA Times and Health Magazine. However they seem to have stagnated and are being eclipsed by more affordable, similarly built brands like Sole.

Strengths:
1) Heavy Flywheels - In general, the heavier the flywheel, the smoother the elliptical ride. Vision Ellipticals use a fairly heavy flywheel, ranging from 21 - 24 lbs which is quite good.
Just to give you an idea,Horizon uses 14-16 pound flywheels and Sole uses monster 25 - 29 lb flywheels.
Weaknesses:
While Vision had some great models going several years ago, they seem to have stagnated and are being ecliped by more aggressive brands with stronger construction and more workout tools.
They also tend to be on the higher priced side $1200 up to $2500+ - so you would really expect more at this price point.
Summary:
Vision Fitness ellipticals do offer some strong user-friendly features like incline, folding ability and decent sized flywheels. Their consoles are also quite attractive and well-laid out.
However they aren't as well known as other brands and there's nothing about them that really stands out to recommend them above other brands.
For an alternative brand with with higher inclines and slightly heavier flywheels, you may want to check out the Sole ellipticals first.
